Coaches Letter

Date:         February 1, 2008
To:             BASC Recreational Coaches
From:        Broken Arrow Soccer Club
Subject:   Spring 2008 Coaches Roster Meeting

Welcome to our Spring 2008 season!

You have been given a coaching position & thank you for volunteering to coach a team this season. Please read this letter carefully; there are several items that can help you execute your responsibilities as a coach more easily! If you have not given the club office a team name (or you wish to change it) & shirt color, please reply by email the office IMMEDIATELY at basc@brokenarrowsoccerclub.org with a team name & color. Use your team number for reference to the correct team name so we will assign the correct info for each team. We need this information to complete schedules to be given to all coaches at the General Membership Meeting on Tuesday, February 26.

Coaches-please check your emails--you should have one from GotSoccer containing a coach form. If you have not already done so, please update it with your information so that we have your correct team name, etc for our records, Even if you have filled out a paper coach application.

COACHES "ROSTER PACKET" PICKUP

Your rosters will be available to pick up at a short meeting on THURSDAY FEBRUARY 7 at Sequoyah Middle School in the cafeteria. It is located on the east side of Elm Street between 91st & 101st. Coaches coaching under 6, 7, & 8 teams will meet from 7:00-7:45 pm, and those coaching under 9 and above teams will meet from 8:00-8:45 pm. You will receive team rosters, associated registration forms, & other valuable information in the "Roster Packet". Remember that you may start practicing immediately after this meeting & that your players will be anxiously waiting to hear from you so please make arrangements to attend.

UNDER 10 & OLDER AGE DIVISON GOALIE BOXES

The BASC is limiting pre game warm ups to areas outside the 18-yard line (penalty box) on each field before games in order to preserve newly repaired goalie boxes. We would appreciate your cooperation with this very important request, as it will help keep the goal areas in better condition.  There will be a $50.00 fine for warming up in the penalty box.

PRACTICE FIELDS,,TIM BOYD, 3RD VICE PRESIDENT

Tim Boyd, our Third Vice-President & Practice Field Coordinator, will be contacting new coaches to find out if you need a practice field. Have your team name & age division ready when he calls. BASC has practice fields all over BA but they can be used only by assignment. You, on the other hand, can practice any other place you like & be covered by insurance & liability as long as you have the landowners' permission. Please do not call the Broken Arrow Public Schools & ask for permission to use their property. Only the BASC representative has permission to do so.

Just a reminder: park any vehicles on the designated field parking areas during practice. We are responsible for keeping the practice fields free from trash. Please report any safety concerns to our BASC office regarding the field conditions to our BASC office.

FIELD DAY-Feb 16th

Mike McCormick, our Second Vice President, has scheduled a field day on Saturday, February 16 from 10am to 1pm. We will be readying the fields for the season & setting up nets. Each team coach is required to get at least one volunteer from their team for Field Day. We will assemble at the East side equipment shed & be assigned a task from there. The field day should be finished by 1 pm.

COACH TRAINING-DAVID MORGAN, CLUB HEAD COACH

David is our club head coach & is therefore responsible for recruiting, training & mentoring our coaches. If you have problems or need help feel free to contact him at 853-2937. Each coach MUST fill out a coaching application & disclosure form once a seasonal year.

The club is still in need of adult referees! Please check with your parents for volunteers. Each team will be responsible for providing one referee representative to attend the referee classes or to volunteer their time to help the club during tournaments, etc.

U 6 T-SHIRTS & CLUB UNIFORMS

If you have an under 6 team you will get 2 game t-shirts (one orange, one white) for each of your new players only--those with an asterisk (*) by their names, at the roster or schedule meeting, so don't order uniforms for them. Returning U-6 players keep their last season's t-shirts & are not given new ones. If a returning player needs a shirt they may be purchased at the BASC office for $4.00.

If you have a team, U 7 or above, the BASC offers a quality club uniform for our teams through Soccer USA. The uniform consists of two shirts (including club logo & numbers), one pair of shorts & one pair of socks for $39.50. We encourage our coaches to use this option, as it is a good uniform at a reasonable price, thereby minimizing the expense to our team's parents. Soccer USA is located at 317 N Aspen (east side of street across from Wal-Mart in the strip shopping center). There will be an order form for your new team in your coaches' packet at the meeting on the 16th. Never put the players' names on the uniforms.

The club has arranged with Soccer USA to stock a club uniform for the coming years. It is a very high quality uniform set made with engineered cloth.

ALCOHOL & TOBACCO USE

It is the policy of the Broken Arrow Soccer Club that the use of alcohol or tobacco by coaches in the presence of their players will not be tolerated. This policy is in effect not only at games, but also at practice or other team activities. It is also requested that spectators refrain from alcohol or tobacco use around players & coaches have the authority to tell them so. Infractions of this policy can subject coaches or assistants to action by the BASC Disciplinary Committee.

BASC COACHES

Thanks to all of you for your many hours of hard work and much appreciated efforts. There is nothing you can do that is more valuable than involving yourselves with your children, grandchildren, & the youth of this club, by coaching a soccer team & supporting this organization. You make a difference every Saturday in the thousands of smiling faces at Indian Springs Soccer Complex. If you have questions call (258-5770) or email the BASC office.

REMEMBER-THE COACHES MEETING IS THURSDAY FEBRUARY 7! YOU SHOULD START PRACTICING IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING THE MEETING SO DON'T MISS IT! GAMES BEGIN MARCH 1.
